Crystal DeVoss Mahany earned a B.A. in Political Science in 2002 and began working in the legal field in 2004. Marrying her interest in policy and law, she earned a master's degree from Norwich University in 2011. Her thesis focused on Feminist Jurisprudence in relation to international law and policy in response to the War on Terror.
Returning to her love of the law and work as a paralegal, she earned a second master's degree from GW’s Paralegal Studies Program. During her time as a student, Crystal was recognized for her commitment to work in civil rights.
Upon graduation, she was inducted into Lambda Epsilon Chi (LEX), the paralegal national honor society for academic excellence.
Crystal stresses the importance of civic engagement and the powerful impact of advocacy to her students. She regularly presents at academic and legal conferences to present papers and policy research, highlight important legal issues and further legislative advocacy. As a military spouse of 23+ years, she supports a nonprofit as a policy researcher and legal analyst and actively advocates for Disability Rights at the local, state and national level.
Crystal joined CPS as an instructional assistant for Legal Research & Writing, Business Entities, and Administrative Law, then as an adjunct faculty member to teach Legal Research & Writing, Family Law, and Litigation.
She is a member of the American Association for Paralegal Education (AAfPE) and the Council of Parents Attorneys and Advocates.
