At the Graduate School of Political Management (GSPM), we celebrate our Hispanic and Latino alumni every day for the leadership, vision and dedication they bring to politics and our communities. This Latin Heritage Month, we’re proud to spotlight two of our alumni and share their stories.

Alumni Spotlight: Gaston Araoz, MPS in Political Management
“Being part of the GSPM community has been a highlight of my professional career. As a former international student and now a proud U.S. citizen, I truly value the connections I’ve been able to build and nurture with various members of this community. They have enabled me to expand my knowledge of US politics and culture, develop new skills, and feel more confident to share my point of view as a Latino in this country.”

Alumni Spotlight: Adriana Sandoval, MPS in Political Management
“Being part of the GSPM community has been one of the most transformative experiences of my life. Studying for a Master's in Political Management at GWU was a dream I carried from Colombia, and through resilience, sacrifice, and hard work, that dream became reality. As a Latina, my journey is not just about personal achievement—it is about honoring the strength, joy, and determination that define our heritage. Every step I took at GSPM reminded me that our culture is a source of power and inspiration.
At GSPM, I found not only academic excellence but also a community that believed in me and celebrated my voice. Serving as a University Senator, representing international students, and being recognized in global spaces like COP28 has shown me that Latinas can lead, transform, and inspire change far beyond borders.
As a proud GSPM alumna, being highlighted during Latin Heritage Month fills my heart with gratitude and pride. It is a celebration of our roots, our resilience, and our future. I carry both Colombia and GWU with honor, and my greatest hope is to inspire the next generation of Latina leaders to believe in themselves. No dream is too big when we honor our heritage and lead with heart.”
A recent GW Today story highlighted GW’s Latin Heritage Celebration resources and a message from GW’s President:
“This month, we recognize and celebrate the remarkable contributions of GW’s Latin and Hispanic communities,” GW President Ellen M. Granberg said. “Their creativity, leadership and unique perspectives enrich our university and inspire our work locally, nationally and globally. I am grateful to the GW students leading the university’s Latin Heritage Celebration. In honoring the lasting impact of GW’s Latin and Hispanic communities, we reaffirm our dedication to fostering inclusion, celebrating lived experiences and advancing a future where every culture thrives and strengthens our shared mission of progress.”
