The Center for Excellence in Public Leadership (CEPL) contributes to advancing excellence in public service in multiple ways. This month CEPL is proud to have three alumni recognized with prestigious awards at the Presidential Rank Awards Leadership Summit that two CEPL senior fellows contributed to making a success. CEPL’s ongoing educational offerings are in alignment with the summit’s goals of helping federal career senior leaders grow in their roles.

During the Summit three CEPL alumni received this year's prestigious Presidential Rank Awards, recognizing the extraordinary public service of senior-level professionals in the federal government. According to the Senior Executives Association there were 36 winners of the annual Distinguished Rank Awards. The three CEPL alumni awardees are:

• Michael Frueh from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs,
• Keith Washington from the U.S. Department of Transportation, and
• Dr. Nancy Potok from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Dr. Nancy Potok, awardee and also a GW-CEPL Senior Fellow, was a panelist during the "Emerging Process Challenges for Federal Government Leaders" session. Another CEPL Senior Fellow, Lutricia Jackson volunteered at the summit to mentor aspiring Senior Executive Service members or senior career leaders by providing 20-minute one-on-one meetings.

The Summit’s agenda included educational tracks that addressed pressing areas for federal career senior leaders, such as: Leadership Pipeline; Executive Readiness; and Transformational Leadership. CEPL’s program offerings closely align with these topics.
