STUDENT SPEAKER COMPETITION

SPEAK UP! We’re interested in what you have to say!

The University is holding a competition to select the student speaker for the main GW Commencement Ceremony, to be held on the National Mall on Sunday, May 18.

This will be a two-step process. The first step will be for each school to select one student to participate in the University-wide competition.

To be considered as the College of Professional Studies’ representative:

  1. You must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  2. You must be a Fall 2007 or Spring 2008 graduate.
  3. You must submit a letter of recommendation from either your program director or another of your professors to Jack Chatman by April 1.

You will be asked to present your 2-minute speech (which should be the actual speech you intend to give at Commencement) to a panel of CPS judges on April 8 at 5:00 p.m.

If selected as the CPS representative, you will then present the same speech to a University-wide committee on April 11 at 2:00 p.m. This committee will select the student speaker from among the school’s representatives.

If the CPS representative is selected for the main University Commencement, the runner-up will be the speaker at the CPS school celebration ceremony on May 17 at 7:30 p.m.

If you are interested in being considered as the CPS representative, please let Jack Chatman know by no later than April 1.

Additional info on the University-wide competition can be found at: http://commencement.gwu.edu/ssc/
